We’re sure that you’ve heard the word “antioxidant” before. It is plastered all over health food stores and on products. But what exactly are they? And why are they so essential for you?

What are antioxidants?

Antioxidants are artificial or natural substances that aid in reducing cell damage. Cell damage is caused by free radicals that are formed after you exert energy during a good workout, or when your body converts energy during digestion. You can also be exposed to free radicals from the environment, such as pollution, sunlight, and smoke. So what can we do to slow down this damage, and add antioxidants to your diet?

1. Eat more Vegetables!

Vegetables are a great place to start if you want to help your body fight off free radicals and become healthier. Some good picks are artichokes, which are high in an antioxidant called chlorogenic acid, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

Tip: Roast artichokes with garlic, lemon, and olive oil for a tasty side dish.

2. Eat More Fruits!

There are many fruits rich in antioxidants as well. Blueberries and strawberries are a great way to get your antioxidants because they contain anthocyanins, which are a type of flavonoid that also gives the fruits their deep red or blue color.

Tip: Incorporate an easy antioxidant-packed breakfast into your morning by using ½ cup blueberries, ½ cup strawberries, MatriX meal replacement and protein, and 1 cup almond milk or water and blend! Then take it to go on your way to work!

3. Drink Green Tea

Green Tea is rich in polyphenols, boasting about 30% by weight. Polyphenols are compounds that reduce free radicals. It is also rich in a catechin called EGCG, which also aids with protection from cell damage.

4. Take TLC Products!

Our Chaga supplement is a great choice to help defend your body from free radicals. Chaga is a type of mushroom that typically grows on the bark of birch trees in colder climates in Northern Europe, Siberia, Russia, Korea, Northern Canada, and Alaska.

It is known to be an excellent antioxidant and free radical fighter and will help you on your way to health! Learn more about Chaga mushroom pills here.
