“Having fun we get more work done.”

I’ve written about this Core Value so many times. Every seven weeks, I write about this Core Value, and I have written these for 2.5 years. This means that I have written about having fun and getting more work done about 20 times.

I know that most of those 20 times included me talking about how having fun can help you forget you are even working. I also know that I wrote about how you can change the environment by having fun some other times. I like to have fun every day, and I challenge others to do the same. Why wouldn’t you want to have fun if you could? Tomorrow is not guaranteed, so there is never a bad time to try to have some fun!

This week I wanted to talk about having fun in a slightly different way.  I have been talking all day today about not being comfortable and why being slightly uncomfortable is beneficial. It is something I have realized is beneficial to us and necessary if we want to grow. This week I am rewording things a little to help explain why fun can help you grow!

“Having fun we get more growth done.”

I realized today that having fun helps us forget we are working and helps us forget that we are uncomfortable. Being slightly uncomfortable can help you grow and become a better version of yourself, so you have to do it! No matter what it takes, even if you have to fool yourself by having fun while being uncomfortable, you have to do it, and most of us already do!

Working out is uncomfortable if you do it correctly. Most of us make it more fun by listening to music or joining an exercise group. This makes us forget that we are even working out sometimes!

Going to a new school or starting a new job is uncomfortable, but if we find a new friend to talk to that makes us laugh, then suddenly, we forget how uncomfortable we are.

Public speaking is something that most people fear.  It can be very uncomfortable, and most won’t even try it. Eventually, when someone does start speaking, they realize that making the audience laugh with a good joke or asking them to stand and dance to music can change everything. When we have fun, we almost forget how uncomfortable we feel.

Starting a business can be very stressful and uncomfortable. Some business owners overcome this feeling better than others, and most of the time, it’s because their business involves something they love. If we get to do something every day that is fun for us, then it’s easier to handle the uncomfortable part of owning a business.

I hope one or all these examples help you realize two things. One should be that having fun or introducing fun into an environment can help us be more comfortable. The second thing and most powerful for me is having fun helps us grow! Yes, that’s right, it helps us grow!  If you can be uncomfortable from time to time, you will grow and if having fun helps you forget that you feel uncomfortable, you will do it more often.

If you do something good for yourself and you do it more often than others, you will see yourself be more successful than most. I promise you the way to be successful in all aspects of life is to get uncomfortable and get used to it! The best way to get uncomfortable more often is to have fun so you can forget how uncomfortable you are, and that can start with a simple smile.

Start challenging yourself to accept challenging situations that may be uncomfortable and start figuring out a way to have some fun while doing them. I am sure you will see that having fun helps us get more work down, but it helps us grow too! I want everyone to grow every day and become a better version of themselves as each day passes, and for me, the secret to this is having fun.

Life is short, have fun no matter what or where you are and start now! If you do the uncomfortable things every day, your life will be easy; if you do the comfortable things every day, your life will be hard. I want you to be great, but you got to want to be great too!  Find a challenge and figure out how to make it fun, and then do it again and again!

Thank you for reading this week and remember that although we can’t always control our environment, we can always control how we react to it. I choose to look for ways to make every situation more fun, and I challenge you to do the same. Once you get comfortable being uncomfortable by trying to have fun, you will look back one day and realize you have grown so much, and you will be so proud of yourself, and that’s fun too!

Have a great week!
