By Alexa Soto Director of Human Resources Total Life Changes
John Licari, Total Life Changes (TLC) Chief Operation Officer, isn’t your typical corporate executive by any means. Not after spending the first ten years of his ‘career’ on the assembly line in an automotive plant. Or wearing his heart on his sleeve for all to see and feel every single day. In fact, we don’t know any corporate leaders anywhere who write this to their employees:
“I hope you’re having a great day and you sprung out of bed this morning excited about today. I hope you feel that way every day because I care about you and want you to have fun and be excited about life every day!”
The global health and wellness company wants to honor and acknowledge John for what he does every day. He takes time out of his busy schedule each day to walk the halls to every department in the company and look people in the eye to share a “Message of The Day” – with over 450 employees! A new and positive message is shared Monday through Friday, from home on the weekends, as well as on social media. He also sends out a Core Value email message once a week to all employees and even hosts a podcast called The Hope Dealers that shares real-life stories of hope and redemption that’s now available on iHeart Radio or wherever you get your podcasts.
One of John’s recent emails began like this:
“Have you ever been so passionate about something to the point where all you want to do is talk about it or share it with the world? Where you find most times you can’t contain yourself? That’s how I feel about TLC all the time. I know in my heart that the community, the products, and the positive energy are so beneficial for people, and I want them to be a part of it so bad that sometimes I find myself unable to shut up.”
John’s humble gesture of sharing positive vibes with all started during the heart of the pandemic as a way of continuing to motivate employees and show gratitude for their hard work and dedication. Recognition is very important at TLC, along with constant engagement within the high-energy culture. The company’s foundation is based on these 7 Core Values:
- Passion is Our Fuel.
- Grateful is Our Mindset.
- Having Fun We Get More Work Done.
- We are Always Hungry for More.
- We Love Each Other, Period.
- We Don’t Just Do What’s Easy, We Do What’s Right.
- Our Standard is Giving More Than What’s Expected.
TLC’s Chief Visionary Officer, Jack Fallon, believes John embodies all the best qualities of the company, including each of the 7 Core Values. TLC’s employees and independent business owners, called Life Changers, and our entire Michigan community feel blessed to have such an amazing and inspiring leader. John is often referred to as the “Heartbeat of TLC.”
It’s hard to argue when he writes words like this in another recent Core Value email:
“The one thing that I believe is the number one issue facing the world today is something we can control and that’s LOVE. Love is patient, love is open-minded and open to compromise. Love is respectful to others. Love is kindness even to strangers. Love is the ultimate gamechanger and yet love seems almost nonexistent in our world today. We used to love our country, our state, our city, and our neighborhoods but now we can’t even get along at home or agree on what the world needs. My answer to all that ails us is simple, we need love.”
We hope John’s non-stop positivity inspires other great leaders to share encouraging words and inspiration to their teams on a daily basis. We can all use motivation, now more than ever. This is why everyone at TLC loves the one and only Mr. John Licari!
